We invite seekers to explore Judaism here at The Temple. Rabbi Glasser meets with prospective students at the beginning of their journeys to guide individuals on their paths toward becoming part of the Jewish people.
Religion is a personal and complex facet of life, and we admire the willingness to learn and reflect on your religious identity. While every person’s story is unique, the journey toward conversion involves intentional steps and shared experiences to ensure a full understanding of what it means to lead a meaningful Jewish life.
The Roadmap to Conversion
To begin your path toward joining the Jewish people, we encourage you to:
- Attend a service: Join us in-person or via live stream to experience the spirit and rhythm of our congregation.
- Connect with clergy: Schedule a 15-minute video call with Rabbi Glasser to formally begin your journey.
- Commit to the process: The path typically spans one to two years of learning, exploration, and the integration of Jewish rituals into your daily life.
The Three Pillars of Becoming Jewish
Our conversion process is built upon three essential pillars of study and community:
- Learning: Enroll in an Introduction to Judaism course. We recommend the foundational course offered through the Union for Reform Judaism.
- Living: Immerse yourself as an active participant in Jewish life for at least one year. This time allows you to observe the holidays, practice rituals, and experience the joy of being part of a vibrant community.
- Exploring: Discover the aspects of Judaism that intrigue you personally. This might include reading, joining a social group at The Temple, or developing a personal spiritual practice.
The Ritual Steps
At the conclusion of your journey, you will participate in three traditional Jewish steps to make your conversion official:
- Mikvah: A visit to the ritual bath.
- Beit Din: A conversation with a panel of Jewish clergy and experts.
- Ritual Ceremony: A symbolic drop of blood, which is optional and can be discussed with Rabbi Glasser as the date approaches.
