Wow – my first Temple Messenger article. No pressure, right? This is the first of many opportunities you will have to get to know me, your new Assistant Rabbi! Perhaps I should take this time to introduce myself, my lovely wife, Erin, and the love of our lives, our 2 ½ year-old son, Ayden. I can tell you that I am a die-hard Buckeye fan; born and raised in the great state of O-H-I-O (I promise to keep my conversations about Urban Meyer to a minimum). I can tell you about my love for music (just about everything, but country…sorry), about my rabbinic thesis on prayer and the daily Amidah and about my passion for Jewish learning and study. But instead, I will save that all for when we begin to become a part of each other’s lives.
We are all blessed to have many new beginnings ahead. We will begin to pray together, to study together, to laugh and cry together. We will celebrate life together and work towards bringing more peace to our world. We will begin to create sacred space together, be it within the Temple walls or beyond. It is my hope that we will begin to build trust and love for one another and in turn, build life-long relationships. We will begin to share the many shehechianu moments, those in which we thank God for blessing us with opportunities to share in each other’s lives.
Rabbi Lief, the Transition Committee, and the staff at Temple are hard at work helping my family and me settle into our new home in Jacksonville. They are coordinating many opportunities for all of us to come together and begin to get to know one another. That said, I am eager to meet you. I invite you to stop by my office, give me a call, or email me at email@example.com.
I look forward to the blessings we will all be in each other’s lives for many years to come.
