In keeping with Reform Judaism’s long tradition of Tikkun Olam – repair of the world – members of all ages are active in a wide variety of social action projects to improve the community in which we live. We invite you to get involved and help us make a difference starting right here in Jacksonville with programs.  If you are interested in volunteering or taking on a leadership role for a Social Action project, please contact Mike Elkin for more information.

  • BRAILLE GROUP   A project of Temple Sisterhood since 1957, we teach classes and translate books, menus and more into Braille to serve the needs of the blind community.
  • CARING CONGREGATION  These very special volunteers care for those who are homebound, or just coming home from the hospital. They lovingly prepare and deliver homemade chicken soup on a regular basis.
  • FEED A NEEDY NEIGHBOR (FANN)  In partnership with Jewish Family & Community Services, we regularly conduct collection drives and donate non-perishable food items to help those who are less fortunate.
  • HEALING LIBRARY  This special section of our Wurn Family Library provides resources to those coping with illness and those seeking peace after the loss of a loved one.
  • MEALS ON WHEELS   Each year the Jacksonville Jewish Center and the Temple will be cooking, packing and delivering chicken dinners to Jacksonville Seniors in Need on Christmas Day.  This allows the Meals on Wheels Staff time off to enjoy the holiday with their families. Meals on Wheels America is the oldest and largest national organization supporting the more than 5,000 community-based senior nutrition programs across the country that are dedicated to addressing senior hunger and isolation. This network exists in virtually every community in America and, along with more than two million volunteers, delivers the nutritious meals, friendly visits and safety checks that enable America’s seniors to live nourished lives with independence and dignity. By providing funding, leadership, education and advocacy support, Meals on Wheels America empowers its local member programs to strengthen their communities, one senior at a time.
