Enliven your Shabbat spirit with our own Friday Night Live Band led by Rabbi Matt Cohen.
The band will be featured at the third Friday night Shabbat service every month except in January 2017. The January 13, 2017 Shabbat is a Martin Luther King, Jr., Shabbat service with the band and the Praise Team from the Sanctuary at Mt. Calvary Church. (The band will not appear January 20, 2017.)
The Friday Night Live Band (FNL) was started on May 3, 2013. The band fills our sanctuary with music that is spiritual and joyous and will be a welcome addition to your Shabbat. The band is currently made up of sixteen men and women—and open to more new members--playing instruments and singing music that brings an added dimension to our worship service. Along with singers, the band includes guitars, percussion, piano, keyboard, clarinets, trombones, violin, saxophone and hammered dulcimer.
From the opening Niggun to the closing hymn you will hear melodies from our service in traditional as well as contemporary renditions. The prayers are set to music by Debbie Friedman, Joe Black, Josh Nelson, Craig Taubman, Noah Aronson, June Silver, Rick Recht, Dan Nichols, Jeff Klepper, Don Freelander and our own Rabbi Matt Cohen.
Listen to music from Soul Food Shabbat, June 12, 2015. Thanks to Robert Schnitzer for the videos: Yismechu, Shalom Rav and Oseh Shalom.
